Looks Like Scunny Next Season

In May 1999, Manchester City were 2-0 down against Gillingham on 90 minutes in a crucial Division Two Play-Off Final at Wembley. Defeat would have meant another season in the third tier of English football, their lowest ever level and it could have put the very future of the club in jeopardy. Stoppage time goals from Kevin Horlock and Paul Dickov were enough to rescue the game, making it 2-2 – before City then went on to win promotion on penalties.

To celebrate the 15th anniversary, David J. Mooney spoke to every member of the team – and the manager – to get their memories of that historic afternoon and to find out how their careers went after that game.
